BACKGROUND:

The Women in Infectious Diseases and Health Research in Malawi (WIDREM) Network was launched in 2015 with funding from World Health Organisation through TDR, the Special Programme for Research and Training in Tropical Diseases. TDR is a global programme of scientific collaboration that helps facilitate, support and influence efforts to combat diseases of poverty. TDR is co-sponsored by the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the World Bank and the World Health Organization (WHO).

AIM:

To improve career development for women scientists in infectious diseases/health research in Malawi.

VISION:

To inspire, develop, empower and advance women in infectious disease and health research in Malawi.

MISSION STATEMENT

To promote women career development in health research in public or private academic and research institutions in Malawi through motivation, skills capacity building and creation of equal opportunities that ensure an enabling environment for women to advance health research.
